CHIP S.A. (Clearinghouse for Intellectual Property) was founded by key individuals involved in the successful creation and running of the .eu and .be registries, representing over four million domain names.
CHIP’s staff has over 20 years of experience in developing and managing sophisticated solutions for registrars and TLD managers.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is responsible for managing the domain name system and ICANN developed the new gTLD program in order to increase competition and choice in the domain name space.
The Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH) is the most important rights protection mechanism built into ICANN’s new gTLD program. It allows brand owners to submit their trademark data into one centralized database, prior to and during the launch of new gTLDs.
The Trademark Clearinghouse consists of two primary functions:
(i) the authentication of contact information and verification of Trademark Records and
(ii) the storage of such Trademark Records in a database in order to provide information to the new gTLD registries.
More info can be found on our website www.trademark-clearinghouse.com
The Trademark Clearinghouse is powered by Deloitte as the provider of verification services, and IBM as database provider.
CHIP is the software, billing and support agent for TMCH.
Our role in the set-up and management of the Trademark Clearinghouse is mainly technical: development, testing, rendering technical assistance to registrars, registries, brand owners and the validation agents.
